Here are 3 key tips for approaching this interview with equanimity and maximising your chances of success.
Preparation
Preparing the background: mastering your background and your project
Before any interview, preparation is key. You need to be able to talk clearly about your academic and professional background, as well as your plans for the future.
What you need to prepare in advance
- Your school career: successes, difficulties, key turning points, choices
- Your professional or extra-curricular experience: internships, jobs, voluntary work, position in an association, etc.
- Your career plans: the jobs you want to do, the sectors that appeal to you. Don’t hesitate to find out what’s going on in the sector you’re looking for, the key players, the state of the market, the type of vacancies available at your school level, etc.
- Knowledge of the INSEEC programme: the type of contract offered, the periods spent in the company, the course of the year.
Show that you know why you are here and what you expect from the course. INSEEC courses are professional, so you will be judged as a future professional and representative of our school in the workplace!
Get practising!
As with a job interview, you can ask people around you to put you in a real-life situation and ask you questions. This exercise will help you to feel more comfortable speaking and to express yourself more fluently. Your chances of success will be all the greater!
The shape
Taking care of form: creating optimum conditions
Even if the interview takes place remotely, it must be taken as seriously as a face-to-face meeting. This requires impeccable logistics, which are all too often forgotten by students and can be a source of great anxiety at the fateful moment of the interview.
Technical checklist before maintenance
- Check your Internet connection
- Test your camera and microphone beforehand
- Provide a quiet environment, free from noise and distractions
- Wear appropriate professional attire
Remember to sit in a well-lit area with a neutral background. This conveys a serious and prepared image.
Authenticity
Be authentic: show your personality
Who will be my jury?
The jury is made up of professionals working in your target sector. They may also include teachers and members of the educational team. Their questions will always be sympathetic. There are no good or bad courses. All candidates will be assessed fairly, even those who are afraid of having an ‘atypical’ career path.
The jury is not looking for formatted answers, but for profiles that are committed, sincere and consistent with their project. The most important thing is to be yourself.
What the jury expects from you
- An assertive personality, a candidate who knows what they want and shows a genuine interest in training (and their future!)
- Basic knowledge of your future sector
- The ability to plan your training
- Oral fluency to talk about yourself and your projects
- Intellectual curiosity: don’t hesitate to ask questions about the programme, career opportunities and life at the school.
“Staying yourself” is not just empty advice: it’s what will make the difference. The jury is looking to see if you’re right for the programme… and if the programme is right for you.
So
In a nutshell: the 3 pillars of a successful admissions interview
- Preparing the content: knowing your background, your project and the programme
- Taking care of form: environment, connection, outfit
- Staying yourself: expressing your personality and motivation, asking questions
