Yes, entry to the Master's level of the Grande École program is by competitive examination. There are two possible routes:
The BCE (Banque Commune d'Épreuves) competitive entrance exam, if you are in a preparatory class.
The ÉVOLUTION competitive entrance exam, if you have (or are in the process of obtaining) a Bac+2 or Bac+3.

Yes, work-study is available from the 3rd year of the program. It allows you to :
put what you've learned into practice in the field;
