Why decide to change direction after a Master 1?
After a few years of study, your chosen course is no longer appropriate for you. You realise that your chosen Master’s programme is at odds with your real aspirations. Even at Master’s level 1, you’re entitled to make mistakes and you may feel demotivated at some point. You may also find that the course is saturated and that there are virtually no openings, so you may decide to change direction.
Take some time to think about why you want to find out more about changing direction after your Master’s 1. This will help you to choose the right course for you. This self-analysis is highly recommended.
Change
How do you decide on your new direction?
Changing direction may be dictated by a desire for greater economic stability or personal fulfilment. There are plenty of opportunities in other training courses. If you are well integrated into the professional world, you will be able to live comfortably.
What’s more, it’s entirely possible to combine your personal tastes with your desire for academic success. You can do this by choosing a list of courses that match your aspirations. The key is to assert your desires and find the path that will allow you to enter the job market easily.
To find your path, you need to think carefully. Before choosing a specific profession or training course, identify the sectors of activity that appeal to you. Then focus on the possible occupations in that sector, and choose the ones that appeal to you.
Then comes the stage of finding out how to get to this job, and what training you need.
Choosing a course implies that you know what the opportunities are. After that, you’ll be able to pursue your studies with confidence. You also need to adopt a long-term approach, knowing how to combine your skills with the career options you aspire to.

Which schools should you choose if you want to change direction after a Master 1?
Reorienting yourself on Parcoursup
If you want to change direction after your first year of higher education, you can do so on Parcoursup. Parcoursup offers 19,500 courses in 2022. Although some specialist schools can be accessed without Parcoursup, for the majority the platform remains the only option.
Going through Parcoursup is almost compulsory if you want to enrol in a first-year course. At INSEEC, however, applications for the 1st year of a Bachelor’s degree are made outside Parcours sup.
Reorienting without Parcoursup: university, IEP, engineering school, IAE
After a Master 1, you can choose from a wide range of options without going through Parcoursup. In this case, to be accepted into a Master 2 programme, you must apply for admission and have a good portfolio (grades, professional project, CV).
After a Master 1 at university, you can try to do a Master’s in an IEP, business school or engineering school. There are parallel admissions (via the Écricome and Puissance Alpha competitive entrance exams) for these courses. However, your academic record must be perfect. You have to pass written and oral tests to get into these courses.
Another option is the 2nd year MSc at INSEEC (Institut des Hautes Études Économiques et Commerciales). It is aimed at students in the process of obtaining a Bac+4, or with a Bac+4 or +5.Eligibility criteria include an examination and selection of the application by a jury. The academic quality of the applicant’s academic record and the relevance of his or her career plan are taken into account. The quality of the arguments, the range of professional experience and the language level are also analysed. The average response time from the admissions department is 10 days.
You can also choose asandwich course at INSEEC business school. Work-linked training is available to students in the 3rd year Bachelor, 1st and 2nd year MSc and Master 1 and Master 2 programmes of the Grande École. The INSEEC BBA programme also offers work-linked training under an apprenticeship contract. This programme is only open to students in 4th year of the International Business and Innovation major. We offer 2 start dates in September and February.
