What is an internship?
Everything you need to know about work placements
Build your career plan by immersing yourself in the field. With each placement, you’ll develop practical skills, gain in maturity and enhance your CV to prepare for a successful career.
Put your knowledge into practice
Gradually apply what you learn at school and transform what you learn into directly operational skills.
Discover the realities of the professional world
Familiarise yourself with company codes even before you graduate: hierarchical organisation, teamwork, professional conduct.
Refine your career plan
Clarify your direction, explore your target sector and prepare for a smooth transition into the field that suits you.

Legal guarantees
Internships: a clearly defined legal framework
Status and framework of the internship
- You retain your student status and must pay your tuition fees. The work placement is part of your initial training.
- Once the agreement has been signed, you will be added to the company’s personnel register, but you will not have employee status.
Work placement fees
- In France, it is compulsory to provide a bonus for more than 308 hours’ attendance, i.e. 44 days. Below this threshold, it remains optional.
- The legal minimum is set at €4.35 per hour, paid monthly and calculated on the basis of hours actually worked.
- Only bonuses above the legal minimum are subject to social security contributions.
- Outside France, the regulations of the host country apply.
Duration
- The minimum duration depends on the educational requirements of the programme.
- The maximum authorised period is 132 days on the job, i.e. just over 6 months full-time.
- The work placement may be continuous or alternating, if both the school and the company agree.

Other options
Alternatives for discovering the professional world
Work experience most often takes the form of a full-time, tripartite placement agreement. However, other formats are also possible.
