The functions
What does an employment lawyer do?
As an employment lawyer, your job is to advise companies on employment law matters. But this job extends much further than that of simple adviser.
An employment lawyer has a duty to ensure that the internal regulations drawn up by a company comply fully with the Labour Code. It is therefore their duty to detect any anomalies and correct them. Their next task is to ensure that these regulations are complied with.
If a dispute arises between employees or between the company and employees, the social lawyer must resolve the situation using the Labour Code as a mediator. In a dispute where the company is involved, the social lawyer must obviously defend the company’s interests as far as possible.
The employment lawyer is also responsible for drafting employment contracts. They must also keep abreast of changes in the law and new legislation, so as to be able to do the same for the company’s regulations. Finally, the employment lawyer must play a supporting role in continually improving employees’ working conditions. They must also take part in drawing up the company’s social reports.

Employment lawyer: salary and career development
A social lawyer ‘s salary is already above the average for HR graduates when they start out. You could earn around €2,300 net at the start of your career. Of course, depending on your seniority and experience, you can expect to earn €3,000 or more later on.
However, the figures are even more satisfactory for freelancers. Although it is impossible to give an average, a self-employed employment lawyer earns an excellent salary per contract. Nevertheless, it is always better to start working in-house, to gain experience and make a name for yourself.
