Goals of the RNCP
What are the goals
for this title?
The “Director of Healthcare Establishments” is responsible for managing the financial, human, administrative, logistical and sector-specific aspects of a healthcare (or medical-social) establishment (quality, hygiene, risk management, safety, etc.).
Their job is to coordinate all the activities carried out in a hospital to ensure the best possible care for patients and their families or carers. Their role varies according to the type of establishment, its size and its status. They may be public, voluntary, private for-profit or not-for-profit.
The job of director of healthcare establishments involves different types of establishment:
- Health establishments, i.e. hospitals, MCO clinics (medicine, surgery, obstetrics), psychiatric clinics and SSR clinics (follow-up and rehabilitation care).
- Medical and social establishments for the elderly, i.e. EHPAD (establishments providing accommodation for dependent elderly people), USLD (long-term care units), …
- Medical and social establishments for the disabled such as IMEs (instituts médicoéducatifs), IEMs (instituts d’éducation motrice), FOs (foyers occupationnels), FAMs (foyers d’accueil médicalisé), MASs (maisons d’accueil spécialisé), multi-disability establishments, etc.
The aim of the course is therefore to train healthcare establishment managers in the basic skills that form the foundation of their skills today: strategic and financial management, HR management, team leadership, dialogue and support for patients and their carers. These skills are part of a socially responsible approach to organisations, an ageing population and a current pandemic.
In response to business needs
When it comes to managing healthcare establishments, there is a very strong demand for staff with technical and operational skills who are also capable of responding to recent changes in the healthcare sector and the care of the elderly. We need to take the measure of technological revolutions, but also of changes in public expectations.
It is important to train professionals who will be able to respond to the new situation marked by longer life expectancy and an increase in chronic diseases.
