Reorientation
How do I know if I need to change direction?
The reasons for changing direction are among the questions you need to ask to avoid making a mistake. However, these are not the only criteria you need to take into account when deciding that you need to change direction.
What difficulties are you encountering in your current sector?
An assessment of your initial choice will enable you to know exactly why you are tempted to change direction. In fact, the stress that a course of study imposes on you is already a sign. Remember, though, that every course of study has its own pitfalls. You should only think about changing direction if the course no longer suits you.
Also note the advantages and disadvantages of your initial choice. If you remain objective, you may find that your expectations of a particular course of study differ from the reality. When this happens, reorientation becomes more than an option. Make it your priority to avoid wasting time.
What are my career plans?
After the baccalauréat, students tend to go straight into higher education without taking the time to really think things through. As a result, many of them end up taking courses without any specific career goals in mind. Others realise that the course they have chosen does not correspond to their dream job.
In both of these cases, a change of direction may be necessary. But you need to ask yourself questions about your real career plans. If there is a similarity between the course of study you are already following and your career plans, then reorientation is a waste of time. If, on the other hand, the course of study is totally different from your career choice, reorientation will enable you to pursue your aspirations more quickly.
When?
When should I change direction?
Be aware that your time is limited if you want to avoid a blank year. As a result, you need to make the switch as soon as possible.
If, after a month, you realise that you have taken the wrong course, you can start planning your reorientation without missing any classes. The aim is to make the change without losing a year. As soon as you feel the need for a change, it’s a good idea to look for options that might appeal to you.
You should also note the options available to you. The earlier you decide to reorientate yourself, the more chance you will have of choosing another course in the same year. Thanks to the staggered start to the academic year, this is entirely possible. Unlike the traditional start of the academic year in September, this only takes place in February or March.
Platform
How do I apply for a new course via Parcoursup?
To make the most of Parcoursup, you need to start by logging on. Bear in mind that your initial file will no longer be kept and the platform will give you a new file number. However, by using the same e-mail address, you will be able to retrieve much of your previous information.
Then, between 23 June and 16 September, you have to make your choices of courses. The choice is yours, between business, engineering and communications schools. This procedure is the complementary phase of Parcoursup. It is aimed primarily at those who have worked on their career plans.
The platform offers help and support to give you the best chance of success. All you have to do is follow the recommendations carefully to get a response to your wishes. Like everyone registered on the platform, you will be entitled to 10 wishes.
Application
How can I change careers without going through Parcoursup?
Parcoursup is a good way of reorienting yourself without wasting time. However, you may miss the deadlines, your wishes may not have been answered or you may already be at BAC+2/3/4. To make sure that you get into the course of your choice after reorientation, you have several options.
The classic application for the start of the new school year in September
The classic application for September is the easiest. This is the easiest way to reorient yourself, whatever your level. All you need to do is find out about the school you want to go to and follow the steps they set out for you. Generally speaking, you apply between March and July, for a September start date.
When it comes to choices, you’ll have several. You’ll have IAEs, universities, business schools, including INSEEC, and more. You have the right to apply to several schools to make sure you get into the one you want.
Applying for the staggered or reversed start to the academic year in February
This type of course starts in February or March and allows you to change direction at the end of the first semester so that you don’t lose a year.
The pace and duration of study vary according to the year of study and the programme concerned. You can consult them here for bachelors and MSc programmes.
