Quality manager

The quality manager is the person responsible for implementing a quality policy. Within a certified company, he is the link between the accreditation body and the company. They ensure that all the charters are complied with. The quality manager generally heads a team of quality controllers.
Its field of action
They ensure that all safety and hygiene measures are complied with, so that compliant products are placed on the market. The quality manager is also an intermediary between the company, its suppliers and its customers. In addition to products, the notion of quality also affects services and the living environment of staff.

What does a quality manager do?
Quality managers work in a variety of industrial sectors (agri-food, pharmaceuticals, textiles and construction) and in the medical sector. They can also be found in the financial sector, where some institutions have quality certification. As mentioned above, their main task is to design or modify a company’s quality policy. They are responsible for drafting the quality manual to be adopted.
As the person with primary responsibility, he or she ensures that procedures are followed at all levels, from procurement to production. In the event of non-quality, he or she must identify the source of the problem and find the appropriate solution. In addition, the Quality Manager ensures that certification is renewed by preparing the necessary files for the audit.
Qualifications
The qualities and skills needed to be a good quality manager
As the head of a team, the Quality Manager must demonstrate leadership skills. Other skills and qualities are also required:
Good interpersonal skills
so as to be able to communicate with all stakeholders
A great capacity for analysis and synthesis
so you can make decisions quickly
Great organisational skills
combined with rigour
Quality managers must also be able to use the tools at their disposal and befamiliar with the principles of standards (AFNOR or ISO). Knowledge of the company’s business sector is also advisable. In terms of academic skills, a degree of at least Bachelor’s level or ideally Bac+5 is required.

Quality manager: salary and career development
Remuneration depends on your level of experience. The average annual salary is generally between €40,000 and €50,000 gross for a beginner. For the more experienced, the salary can rise to €60,000 or even €80,000. Depending on the size and activity of the company, it may be possible to progress internally to become Group Quality Director.
The position of audit manager also represents an interesting prospect for career development. With experience, many decide to offer their services as a quality consultant by opening their own firm.
