Why pursue a career in business development?

Why do business development?

What is the definition of business development?

Business development is the strategy implemented to ensure the viability of a company. If it is relevant and sufficient, it enables us to set objectives that are achievable in both the short and long term. It involves carrying out commercial actions that will ensure the company’s long-term success.

Business development then follows a clearly defined process, enabling the company concerned to establish itself in its target market. It is defined as a commercial action plan based on prospecting and building customer loyalty. It involves making effective use of the human and material resources at your disposal. This strategy aims to achieve specific objectives.

Why is business development important?

Are you wondering why you should be involved in business development ? A company may be on the right track today, but will it be tomorrow? The market is changing, demands are changing with the trends. It is therefore essential to update the commercial strategies you use if you are to succeed in the long term.

That’s why business development should be a priority for any company that wants to last. It’s the way to seize growth opportunities and continue to win the trust of target customers. The success of this strategy is explained by the increase in sales and profits achieved.

Business development is also important, because it enables you to gain market share. In any case, to launch your business and keep it operational, you need to take business development seriously.

How do you put in place a commercial development strategy?

To establish a business development strategy, you need to answer a number of fundamental questions:

  • Where can the company go to achieve its objectives?
  • how can you enhance your assets to continue to win the confidence of your prospects and customers?
  • how will it control the competition?
  • how will it stand out in the market and remain operational?

With a sales action plan that answers all these questions, it is possible to define the operational actions to be taken. To achieve this, you need to remain realistic, both in terms of your objectives and the methods you use to achieve them.

It is therefore important to establish clear performance indicators and carry out market research beforehand. The commercial development strategy must aim to reduce the risk of loss, by improving the following areas:

  • the quality of the products and services on offer;
  • tailoring offers to customers’ real needs;
  • pricing strategy ;
  • the communication and promotional strategies used to create a close relationship with customers;
  • prospecting ;
  • customer loyalty.
