As their name suggests, community managers work to create and maintain a community (customers) around a product or brand. They often act as advocates for the products they represent. They create content that arouses public interest and work to shape perceptions of their company and its offerings.

The community manager operates in social media channels or on third-party platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TickTok, Twitch, Twitter or LinKedIn. They may play a role in public relations campaigns, helping to promote events and other activities to raise public awareness. They may also distribute press releases, conduct interviews and organise competitions.

Being a community manager today has become a highly sought-after profession with a wide range of tasks requiring a variety of skills. It’s a multifaceted job that allows you to acquire new skills. It’s a very human job, and a very interesting one if you enjoy dealing with people and digital communication.

Community managers can work part-time or freelance. A community manager can therefore work for several brands at the same time. Remuneration is also attractive, even at the start of a career.

Smaller companies sometimes offer part-time contracts. The average entry-level community manager earns between €1,600 and €1,800 net per month for 35 hours. Salary is subject to graduation in this field.

An experienced community manager can earn between €2,500 and €3,000 net per month. Full-time community managers can earn between 19,000 and 36,000 euros gross per year.

Large companies generally pay the most for community managers, and the more experience you have, the higher your salary. Some bonuses may be added to the salary. As the use of social networks continues to grow, both for Internet users and for brands, the Community Manager must evolve in parallel with the technologies and reinvent and improve himself. In this way, they can become social media managers. This is a more strategic position. In this role, they will have to analyse their actions, manage their budget, and carry out audits and reporting.

To become a community manager, you can study for a BTS in communications or a DUT in multimedia and internet professions after the baccalauréat. It is then preferable to continue on to a professional degree in information and communication. Note that the job is often open to those with at least 3 years’ higher education.
