What is a wine and spirits salesperson?

A salesperson is someone who represents his or her company to customers and prospective customers. According to this definition, a wine and spirits salesperson is the face of a wine or spirits brand. They visit cellars, bars, restaurants and other points of sale to promote their product. Their aim is to build relationships with sellers and buyers so that they can develop brand awareness and sell more wine and spirits. Generally speaking, these salespeople know all the details of the drinks they represent.

What courses are available to become a wine and spirits sales representative?

If you want to work in sales, it’s best to opt for training in marketing and international trade, or in viticulture and oenology. Many schools, universities and colleges in France can offer you this kind of training, and the choice is wide:

  • BTS or BTSA in wine and spirits sales;
  • BTS in negotiation and customer relations;
  • a degree in wine marketing and sales ;
  • professional degree in wines and spirits ;
  • traditional bachelor’s degrees and BTS in business subjects;
  • Master’s degree in marketing and sales of wines and spirits ;
  • MSc and traditional masters in business disciplines.

To work as a wine and spirits salesperson, you can opt for a Grande école course with a wine major (Bac +2 to Bac +5), a Bachelor’s degree in Wine & Spirits, an MBA in Wine Marketing & Management and an MBA in Spirits Marketing & Management.

What is the Wine and Spirits Bachelor’s programme?

INSEEC’s Bachelor of Wine and Spirits allows you to specialise in wine and spirits in one, two or three years. With your baccalauréat, you can apply for the Bachelor 1ʳᵉ year. If you want to enter the Bachelor 2ᵉ year, you need a Bac+1.

Similarly, to apply for the Bachelor 3ᵉ year, you need a Bac+2. For the Bachelor programme, the school offers one to two start dates each year. What’s more, the course can be taken on a sandwich course or on a traditional study schedule. Not only students can enrol. Retrained professionals and wine industry professionals are also eligible.

What is the programme of the MBA in wine and spirits marketing and management?

This programme is also known as the MBA Wine Marketing and Management or MBA Spirits Management. It enables you to specialise in wine or spirits in one or two years and gain professional certification as a “Manager of Marketing and Sales Strategy”. To apply for the 1st year of the MSc, you need a Bac+3, and to enter the 2nd year of the MSc, you need a Bac+4. The campuses offering this programme are in Paris, Bordeaux and Lyon. You can apply whether you come from a business school or a university. Of course, this programme is also available to professionals.

What are the admission requirements for INSEEC courses?

To access the various INSEEC courses, you must meet certain conditions.

Entry requirements for the Bachelor’s degree

  • Bac+1: holders of a baccalauréat or apprenticeship in the final year of secondary school;
  • Bac+2: Holder of or in the process of validating a Licence 1, or a 1st year of a BTS, DUT or preparatory class;
  • Bac+3: Hold or are in the process of validating a Licence 2, Licence 3, or a 2nd or 3rd year of a BTS, DUT or preparatory class.

Conditions of access to the MSc

  • Bac+4: Holders of or in the process of obtaining a Bac+3.
  • Bac+5: Holder of or in the process of obtaining a Bac+4 or Bac+5,
  • Bac+4/Bac+5: retraining professionals and employees.
