Being a shop manager means taking on a position of great responsibility, as you are the guarantor of the shop’s offering. As a shop manager, you are in the same position as a company director. You are the legal, financial and moral representative of the shop you manage. What’s more, as you carry out all your tasks independently, you can organise your work as you see fit. You don’t have to follow a schedule, so you can be flexible with your time.

Working as a shop manager also gives you a prestigious position in which you will manage several teams. As a result, you’ll be the highest paid member of your shop team.

The factors determining a shop manager’s annual salary are his or her experience and the shop’s activities. For a shop specialising in food distribution, the salary is :

  • 30,000 to €40,000 as a beginner ;
  • 40,000 to €60,000 with 2 to 5 years’ experience ;
  • more than €60,000 from 5 years’ experience.

In other shops, the salary varies from :

  • 26,0000 to €30,000 as a beginner ;
  • 30,000 to €36,000 with 2 to 5 years’ experience ;
  • 36,000 to €50,000 from 5 years’ experience.

After working as a shop manager, you can go on to become the subsidiary’s regional or international sales manager. You can also progress internally as a marketing or merchandising manager.
