What is sports management?
Sport management is the business and corporate side of sport. It encompasses all the classic disciplines learnt in business school concerning the management and administration of organisations applied to the sporting field.
Sport management is a sector that also includes needs in accounting, finance, marketing, law, sponsorship, HR, communication and business development.
The sports sector is also an area of passion. Working in this sector also allows students to join an industry and a community that interests them from a personal point of view, with a rich range of professions.

Sport: a growth sector
Sport is a growth sector because it is part of a high-impact industry on a national and international scale.
In France, the sports industry is worth nearly 78 billion euros and includes some 30 million regular sports enthusiasts , according to a study by EY. The sports goods sector alone in France is worth €12 billion.
This sector is a major contributor to the French economy, and is a major source of recruitment for an industry that is constantly evolving and facing a number of challenges, including international competition, digitalisation, political tensions between countries and, very recently, health events.
In addition, there are many different sports represented by multiple entities that allow future employees to evolve in terms of profession and specialisation. For example, working as an employee or freelancer for a sports brand, a sports club, a federation, the media or an agency specialising in sports events.
The international scope of sports management

Competitions and sporting events often bring together different cities and countries. If they wish, students can pursue a career abroad.
Studying at a business school

Sport management offers a wide range of career opportunities, in France and abroad, as well as in corporate, strategic, field and event management roles.
Sports management professions
Students can therefore choose from a range of careers with high recruitment potential, and with a business school education they can then decide what direction to take their career.
Among the positions available, future graduates may decide to become managers of high-level sportspeople. In this role, they will look after the athlete’s contracts with clubs, sponsorship, advertising and communication. In fact, in addition to their skills as athletes on the pitch, they will support the sportsperson in all the business aspects of their activity.
If they wish, students can join teams selling sports-related products and services as marketing managers, communications managers, retail managers or event managers.
This industry is largely supported by the development of large-scale sporting activities by the general public, the strong momentum of major sporting events and the development of connected objects. These are all areas of growth for French and international manufacturers and distributors of sporting goods and equipment.
Sponsorship, partnerships and events with private companies within an event, a club or an agency offer promising career opportunities. Students can apply for positions such as business development manager, sales manager or sponsorship and partnerships manager. Today’s sporting events are supported by prestigious brands and world-leading companies.
Sport is also covered by the media through digital, print, specialist and general media. These events are often the venue for large-scale broadcasts with large audiences. A career in the media can also be an opportunity for future professionals, who can join a radio station, a television channel or a social network as a columnist, journalist, commentator or producer.
Students can also decide to become coaches or sports educators. These disciplines obviously require a practical diploma as well.
These professions can be pursued on a self-employed basis, or within the public sector by becoming a sports educator in public or private establishments.
