How do I get to Munich and the campus?
Getting around Munich
Munich has a highly developed and efficient public transport network, one of the best in Europe. The metropolitan area is served by several subway (U-Bahn), commuter (S-Bahn), streetcar and bus lines, making it easy to get around the city and beyond.
The transport network is managed by the MVV (Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund). Students can benefit from reduced-rate travel passes valid for the entire subway + bus + streetcar + regional train network. Further information is available on the official MVV website.
Munich is also committed to soft mobility, with a large number of well-maintained cycle paths and a self-service bicycle hire service (MVG Rad).
The city also offers a unique application for planning journeys, buying tickets and accessing timetables in real time. Thanks to this accessibility and the reliability of the network, Munich has established itself as a city where it’s particularly pleasant and practical to live without a car.
Getting to Munich by train
Munich is a major rail hub in Germany and Europe. It is efficiently connected to Germany’s major cities: around 4 hours by train from Berlin, 3 hours from Frankfurt and just 1 hour from Augsburg or Nuremberg thanks to high-speed ICE lines.
Munich’s main railway station (Hauptbahnhof), located in the heart of the city, provides direct access to the city center and campus, thanks to excellent connections with the S-Bahn and U-Bahn networks.
Students can take advantage of low fares with monthly or half-yearly season tickets from Deutsche Bahn or the MVV network, which also allow travel throughout the Bavarian region.
Getting to Munich by plane
Munich is served by one of Europe’s largest airports: Munich International Airport (Franz Josef Strauß). It offers over 200 destinations worldwide, with numerous direct connections to France, Europe and major international cities.
- Located around 40 kilometers northeast of Munich, the airport is linked to the city center by two S-Bahn express train lines (S1 and S8). The journey takes around 40 minutes and provides easy access to Munich’s main railway station(Hauptbahnhof) or the Schwanthalerhöhe district, where the campus is located.
Students can also benefit from reduced fares from the airport thanks to the MVV(Münchner Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund) network, with day or monthly tickets tailored to young people.
Getting to the campus from the main railway station (Hauptbahnhof)
INSEEC’s Munich campus is ideally located in the immediate vicinity of the city center. From Munich’s main railway station(München Hauptbahnhof), you can easily reach the campus:
- On foot: about a 10-minute walk from the south of the station.
- By public transport: take the U4 or U5 subway (U-Bahn) towards Westendstraße and get off at Schwanthalerhöhe (2 stops). The campus is less than 5 minutes’ walk from the station.
Getting to campus by metro
From anywhere in the city, it’s easy to reach the INSEEC campus in Munich by subway(U-Bahn).
- Take the U4 or U5 towards Westendstraße, then get off at Schwanthalerhöhe. The campus is less than 5 minutes’ walk from the station.
The Munich subway is renowned for its punctuality and frequency, making it a preferred mode of transport for students.
Getting to campus by bus
The INSEEC Munich campus is easily accessible via the local bus network.
- Take bus 134 and get off at the Schwanthalerhöhe stop, just a few minutes’ walk from the campus.
- You can also take the 53 bus to the Gollierplatz stop: the walk to the campus takes about 5 minutes.

Getting to campus by car
The INSEEC Munich campus has no dedicated parking for students and lecturers.
However, several public parking lots are available in the immediate vicinity, notably in the Schwanthalerhöhe and Westend districts, just a few minutes’ walk from the campus. Convenient options include:
- Heimeranplatz public parking lot
- Parkhaus Gollierstraße 4
- Parking garage Theresienhöhe
We recommend that you use the P+R parking lots on the outskirts of the campus to avoid traffic jams and benefit from low rates, then reach the campus by public transport.

- 089 Bar near Odeonsplatz: very popular with students for its themed evenings, affordable prices and festive atmosphere. We advise you to come before midnight to take advantage of student discounts.
- Sweet Club (near Karlsplatz / Stachus): a trendy, intimate and affordable venue, perfect for an evening out with friends without ostentation.
- Die Bierstube and Barschwein, regularly cited on Reddit as bars popular with students for their friendly atmosphere. Amalienstraße and Türkenstraße are popular streets in the university district, full of inviting bars.
- Pimpernel and Palais Club: these establishments of Munich’s underground scene attract a young and varied public, often late into the evening to keep the party going until dawn.
The area around the university (Maxvorstadt, Schwabing and Ludwigstraße) is home to the majority of student addresses, within easy reach of the campus by subway or on foot.
Cultural events and music festivals
You won’t be bored: Munich is famous for its many music (and cultural) festivals!
- Oktoberfest: a not-to-be-missed international festival, this is the world’s biggest beer festival, but also a cultural event with concerts, traditional Bavarian parades and merry-go-rounds. Every year, it attracts over 6 million visitors from all over the world.
- Klassik am Odeonsplatz: every summer, this open-air classical music festival brings together prestigious orchestras such as the Bayerisches Staatsorchester and the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks in the sumptuous setting of Odeonsplatz.
- Tollwood Festival: an eclectic event held twice a year (winter and summer), combining concerts, street theater, world cuisine, circus and ecological commitment. It features international groups as well as emerging local artists.
- Filmfest München: Germany’s second-largest film festival after the Berlinale, it takes place in July and showcases European and international cinema. It’s a must for fans of auteur films and independent productions.
- Brass Wiesn Festival: a music festival dedicated to brass bands, modern and traditional brass music, held every summer near Munich in a festive, offbeat atmosphere. Popular with students and young adults.

What to do in Bavaria
Some Bavarians will tell you that Munich isn’t the real Bavaria… But whether they’re right or wrong, Bavaria can be discovered perfectly from Munich! Here’s just some of the things you can do and see:
- Augsburg, the city of the Fuggers: accessible by regional train (RE or S-Bahn), this historic city is one of Germany’s oldest. It is home to the Fuggerei, the oldest social housing complex in the world, founded in 1521.
- Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles: architectural gems nestled in the Bavarian Alps, about 2 hours’ drive from Munich. Neuschwanstein even inspired Walt Disney to create Sleeping Beauty’s castle!
- Lake Tegernsee or Starnberger See: less than an hour away by train, these lakes offer splendid scenery and sports, water sports and wellness activities, summer and winter alike.
- Nuremberg and Regensburg: two cities steeped in history, easily accessible by train. Here you’ll find castles, medieval centers, museums and must-see Christmas markets.
- Bavarian Alps, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Zugspitze… explore the mountains on foot, on skis or by cable car! The Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak, can be reached from Munich in around 1h30.
