As part of the Laws of the Game and Ethics of Sport course, the MSc 1 Sport Management students from the Chambéry campus had the chance to meet Eric Poulat. Eric is a former international soccer referee who officiated at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. The opportunity for the promotion to exchange with one of the best French whistles.

The MSc 1 Sport Management class will discover this course in the first semester. It is dedicated to the rules and values of sport in order to understand the issues and regulations that govern French and world sport. An essential step for those who will become the future managers of tomorrow’s sport business. To end the module in beauty, Benoît Auguste, , a speaker on this subject, proposed a meeting with a particular flavor : the arrival of Éric Poulat, who needs no introduction. Brilliant French whistle, this native of the Rhone-Alpes region officiated more than a hundred matches at the highest European level… with as a highlight, a participation in the final phase of the soccer world cup in Germany. And notably a sublime Brazil-Japan. During one day, Mr. Poulat, who this time had left the whistle aside, spoke about his career but also about his view on contemporary sport.

Dozens of questions !

And the promotion was delighted ! A proof ? Dozens of questions were asked about the career of this former referee who is now a referee trainer for the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes league.

” I would like to thank Benoît and all the students for their welcome but also for their interest in my career “, admitted the former international whistleblower at the end of the day.

The students were able to question the former international referee about his career, his relationship with the players and the evolution of video in soccer for example. With, at the end, some crunchy anecdotes for the one who refereed very big names of soccer like Zidane, Ronaldo, and many others !

” This allows students to understand the complexity of the function, and that behind a referee, there is above all a man. I congratulate the students for their seriousness and the very pertinent questions asked !   ” said in conclusion, Benoît Auguste, former soccer referee and sports history gourmet.
